Black Drum

These fish love crushing oysters and crabs with their powerful jaws around shell beds, mud flats, and pier pilings in 2-20 feet of water. March through May is prime time when they school up to spawn - that's when you'll hear them "drumming" underwater. Families love targeting drum because they're great fighters that don't require finesse, and the smaller ones make excellent table fare. The key is getting your bait right on the bottom with enough weight to stay put. Here's an old trick: use fresh peeler crab when you can find it - drum go crazy for it and catfish usually leave it alone.

Redfish
